My background in photography began before the advent of digital photography. In 2008 I transitioned from film to digital when I cofounded (with my son Jason) Grand Life Originals, a photography business based in Oklahoma City.
For an artist, film photography has limitations that are difficult to overcome. The transition to digital provided me the opportunity to create pieces that were previously not possible from a negative. I utilize digital post-processing techniques to design abstract and fine art compositions that I could only envision as a film photographer.
An important characteristic of my processing approach is in striving to elicit emotions beyond those created by the aesthetics of the composition.
As an artist, I seek to understand what draws someone to a composition. Admiration is humbling, but understanding why a composition is admired is illuminating.
